Lateral inhibition i nocieptiv processering - Delforsøg 7
Lateral inhibition i nocieptiv processering - Delforsøg 7

Lateral inhibition in nociceptive processing - Study 7
Lateral inhibition in nociceptive processing - Study 7
We are conducting a series of experiments at Center for Neuroplasticity and Pain (CNAP), Aalborg University, and we are looking for subjects. We wish to investigate a phenomenon in the pain system called lateral inhibition (pain applied in one site of the body may affect the surrounding areas).
You can participate if you are healthy, aged 18-60 and speak and understand English.
The study consists of one experimental session and lasts approx. 3 hours.
A series of electrical stimulations are applied by means of surface electrodes which are placed on the sole of your foot. The stimulations will elicit a number of reflexes, which are measured by means of other surface electrodes located in your leg. Additionally, external visual stimuli may be delivered together with the stimulation in the sole of the foot. You are to assess the pain you perceive on a scale from 0-10 (from “no pain” to “worst pain imaginable”). It will be investigated whether visual information can modulate the nociceptive reflex.
You will feel light to moderate pain during the electric stimulations. However, this will cease immediately after the stimulations.
You will receive kr. 150 per hour for your participation. The amount is liable to taxes and will be reported to the Danish tax authorities as B-income. Please note that you must have a valid work permit if you come from a so-called third country.
The experiment has been approved by The North Denmark Region Committee on Health Research Ethics, project number N-20180047.
