Undersøgelse af neurofysiologiske og psykologiske aspekter af kløe (delforsøg 1)
Investigation of the neurophysiological and psychological aspects of itch
(sub-experiment1)
Investigation of the neurophysiological and psychological aspects of itch

Chronic itch is a common symptom in many diseases, e.g., psoriasis, and it is a condition with a profound impact on the quality of life. At present, there are no completely effective methods for treatment of chronic itch.
In this series of experiments, researchers from Center for Neuroplasticity and Pain at Aalborg University wish to investigate the changes appearing in the brain during itch and pain and to understand the psychological factors that play a role in this process.
You can participate in the experiment if you are healthy, aged 18-60 years, and speak/understand English.
You cannot participate if you, among other things, are pregnant or breastfeeding, suffer from a skin disease, suffer from acute or chronic pain, have moles, scars or tattoos on your forearms/hands, or if you use medications which may affect the experiment (e.g., anti-allergy medicine (antihistamine) or pain medication). Further, you cannot participate in sub-experiment 1 and 2 if you have history of epilepsy, have metal implants in your head or jaw, have implanted hearing aids or metal implants in the face, including permanent makeup or tattoos.
The study is divided into four sub-experiments, and you can participate in one more of them. We are now looking for volunteers for sub-study 1.

-
Sub-experiment 1 consists of three experimental sessions conducted over a period of two weeks. The duration of each session is approx. two hours.
In the experiments, we will apply different pain and itch-evoking substances on your forearms/hands. In sub-experiments 1, we will also apply non-invasive magnetic stimulation to your brain. You will feel light to moderate acute itch/pain during the experiments.
You will receive DKK 125 per hour spent in the laboratory as compensation for your participation in the experiment. The amount is liable to tax and will be reported to the Danish tax authorities as B-income. Please note that you must have a valid work permit if you come from a so-called third country.
The experiment has been approved by The North Denmark Region Committee on Health Research Ethics, project number N-20240004.
