Endelig udtages fire blodprøver (5 mL pr. gang) undervejs i forsøget.
Du modtager 250 kr. pr. session for din deltagelse i forsøget.

Epigenetic changes induced by application of itch by means of spicules from the plant cowhage
Approved protocol title: Identification of the mechanism of non-histaminergic itch probing epigenetic changes following cowhage application

Chronic itch is a common symptom in many diseases, e.g., psoriasis, and it is a condition with a profound impact on the quality of life. At present, there are no completely effective methods for treatment of chronic itch. It has appeared that chronic itch patients express differences in their genes compared to people who do not suffer from itch. Researchers from Center for Neuroplasticity and Pain at Aalborg University are now looking for healthy volunteers for an experiment. We wish to analyse differences in the gene expression in the skin of subjects who are exposed to artificial itch on the forearm compared with subjects who are not exposed to itch.
You can participate in the experiment if you are healthy, aged 18-60 years, and speak/understand English.
You cannot participate if you, among other things, are pregnant or breastfeeding, smoke, suffer from a skin disease (e.g., atopic dermatitis, prurigo nodularis, or psoriasis), suffer from acute or chronic pain, have moles, scars, or tattoos on your forearms, suffer from allergy to lidocaine, or if you use medications which may affect the experiment (e.g., anti-allergy medicine (antihistamine) or pain medication).
The study consists of three experimental sessions conducted over a period of 8 days. The duration of the sessions is approx. 2 ½ hours in total.
In this experiment, we will take out a skin biopsy (a small skin sample) from your forearm. Further, we will apply the small plant needles from the plant cowage (mucuna pruriens) on your forearm. These plant needles will evoke itch and pain. Finally, we will collect four blood samples (5mL each) during the experiment.
You will receive DKK 250 per session as compensation for your participation in the experiment. The amount is liable to tax and will be reported to the Danish tax authorities as B-income. Please note that you must have a valid work permit if you come from a so-called third country.
The experiment has been approved by The North Denmark Region Committee on Health Research Ethics, project number N-20220025.
