Forskere fra Center for Neuroplasticity and Pain på Aalborg Universitet søger deltagere til et forsøg, der skal undersøge to målemetoder, der kan anvendes til at undersøge ændringer i den forreste del af hjernen, der relaterer sig til kroniske smerter. Vi ønsker dermed at få en større viden om kroniske smerter og bidrage til at optimere behandlingsmetoderne for kroniske smerter.
I forsøget vil vi måle din følsomhed til smerte og berøring samt undersøge aktiviteten i din hjerne. Vi påfører dig også ikke-invasive magnetstimulationer, som kortvarigt ændrer aktiviteten i hjernen. Vi udfører disse målinger en gang, hvor du ikke har smerter og en gang, mens du oplever kunstigt påført smerte. Smerten påføres ved hjælp af et plaster, som sættes på din arm og som indeholder stoffet capsaicin (det aktive stof i chilipeber). Undervejs i forsøget vil vi tage en blodprøve (15 mL).
Du kan deltage i forsøget, hvis du

er i alderen 18-70 år og taler og forstår engelsk

Du kan ikke deltage, hvis du bl.a. er gravid, ammer, har eller har haft kroniske eller tilbageven-dende smertetilstande, har lidt af lændesmerter, der varede i mere end 3 dage i træk inden for det seneste år, hvis du for nuværende regelmæssigt bruger smertestillende medicin eller anden medicin, der kan påvirke forsøget (herunder fx Panodil og Ipren) eller hvis du for nylig har haft akutte smerter. Endvidere kan du ikke deltage, hvis du har eller har haft alvorlige sygdomme i bevægeapparatet, neurologiske sygdomme, hjerte-/karsygdomme eller har psykiatriske diagnoser (f.eks. leddegigt, hjerne- eller rygmarvsskader, degenerative neurologiske lidelser, kroniske lungesygdomme, alvorlig depression), hvis du har en pacemaker eller en implanteret neurostimulator, hvis du har klaustrofobi, hvis du tidligere har haft et epileptisk anfald, hvis du har metalimplantater i dit hoved eller hvis du har tatoveringer eller makeup med metal i dit ansigt.
Forsøget udføres over to forsøgssessioner, som udføres med ca. 1 uges mellemrum. Hver session varer 2-3 timer.
FORSØGET STARTER I AUGUST 2025.
Du skal have en gyldig arbejdstilladelse for at deltage i forsøget, hvis du kommer fra et såkaldt tredjeland.

Changes in the frontal brain of individuals with chronic pain

Researchers at the Center for Neuroplasticity and Pain at Aalborg University are looking for participants for an experiment investigating two recording methods which can be used to investigate specific changes in the brain of individuals with chronic pain. With that, we want to better understand chronic pain and contribute to the development of improved chronic pain treatments.
In the experiment, we will assess your pain and touch sensitivity, examine your brain activity, and collect one blood sample (15 mL). We will also apply non-invasive magnetic stimulations which will briefly change the activity in the brain. We will record these measurements once when you are pain-free, and once during the application of capsaicin (chili pepper ingredient) to the skin of your upper limb, which will induce a transient, moderate pain.
You can participate in the experiment if you:

are healthy, aged 18-70, and speak and understand English
You cannot participate if you, among other things, are pregnant or breastfeeding, if you have a current or previous chronic or recurrent pain condition, if you had low back pain lasting longer than three consecutive days during the last year, if you currently use analgesic medication or other medication which may affect the trial (including paracetamol and anti-inflammatory drugs) on a regular basis, or if you have a recent history of acute pain. Further, you cannot participate if you have or have had musculoskeletal, neurologic, cardiovascular or psychiatric diagnoses (e.g., rheumatoid arthritis, brain or spinal cord injuries, degenerative neurological disorders, chronic lung disease, major depression), if you have a pacemaker or an implanted neurostimulator, if you have claustrophobia, if you have previously experienced an epileptic seizure, have metal implants in your head, or tattoos with metal in your face or permanent makeup with metal in your face.
The experiment consists of two sessions that last around 2 to 3 hours on two separate days with maximum 1 week in between.
THE EXPERIMENT WILL START IN AUGUST 2025.
You will receive a compensation of a total of DKK 150 per hour for your participation in the experiment. The amount is liable to tax and will be reported to the Danish tax authorities as B-income. Please note that you must have a valid work permit if you come from a so-called third country.
The experiment has been approved by The North Denmark Region Committee on Health Research Ethics, project number N-20240022.
